August 22: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Friday launched ‘Zhabstok Ladakh’, the Union Territory’s first official Youth Internship Portal, aimed at creating a structured platform for young people to participate in governance, public administration and development initiatives.
The portal, internship.ladakh.gov.in, will allow students and youth from Ladakh to apply for internships across 25 departments of the UT Administration through a single platform. Launched as part of Youth Month, the initiative seeks to move beyond conventional government-youth engagement by giving young people a formal role in understanding and contributing to public administration and community development.
The LG Yuva Internship Programme will commence on September 17, the birth anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, observed as Seva Diwas. As many as 2,000 young people will be selected for the three-month programme and paid a monthly honorarium of ₹5,000.

The tenure of the best-performing interns may be extended by another three months. On completion of the programme, participants will receive certificates that can strengthen their academic and professional profiles.
Registration opened on August 22 and will remain open until September 5. Document verification will be conducted from September 6 to 14.
Interns will be assigned to departments based on their skills and interests, providing them with practical exposure to the functioning of government, implementation of policies and delivery of public programmes. The programme will also allow them to contribute ideas and help address challenges specific to Ladakh.
“ With a large portion of our population under 30, I am confident their ideas and energy would strengthen and enrich each of these departments and help realise the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047,” Saxena said at the launch.
“With this initiative, Ladakh will lead the way in demonstrating how government and youth can collaborate for development. The initiative would provide a new avenue for young people to serve Ladakh, gain practical experience and contribute their energy and ideas towards addressing local challenges,” he added.
The Lieutenant Governor said Ladakh was a young region whose future depended significantly on its youth, describing them as the Union Territory’s greatest strength.
How to Apply
Eligible students and young people can register through the Zhabstok Ladakh Youth Internship Portal. Applicants will be required to complete the online registration process and submit the necessary documents before the September 5 deadline.
The selection process will be followed by document verification, after which successful candidates will be assigned to departments according to their qualifications, skills and areas of interest.
