Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday accepted his party’s loss in the Delhi Assembly elections and congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on its clear win, signifying the saffron party’s resurgence in the national capital after more than twenty-five years.
“We embrace the people’s mandate with great humility. I commend the BJP for this win and I trust they will deliver on all the commitments that led people to vote for them,” Kejriwal stated in a video message.
The AAP encountered a major blow as the BJP suceeded, claiming victory/leading in at least 47 of the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi, based on the latest updates from the Election Commission (EC).

In comparison, AAP is expected to secure only 23 seats — a significant drop from its 2015 count of 62 seats.
Despite the electoral setback, Kejriwal promised that his party would stay engaged in Delhi’s politics, positioning itself as a constructive opposition while still prioritizing public service.
“Over the past decade, we have done lot of work in the areas of health, education, and infrastructure. We will act as a constructive opposition while staying connected with the people and continuing our service to them,” Kejriwal, who also lost in his New Delhi constituency stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Atishi succeeded in retaining the Kalkaji seat in south Delhi, even amidst the BJP’s significant win in the national capital and unexpected losses for prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.
The 43-year-old politician, who secured her seat in 2020, faced competition from BJP’s ex-MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba.
