Will Anup Sridhar and Lee Hyun-Il help change Sindhu’s fortunes

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, has added South Korean badminton legend Lee Hyun Il to her coaching staff as a temporary consulting coach. This action comes after the recent hiring of Anup Sridhar as her temporary coach. They will assist Sindhu together until December 2024, when a permanent coaching team decision is expected.

PV Sindhu adds Anup Sridhar and Lee Hyun Il to her coaching staff

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, has added South Korean badminton legend Lee Hyun Il to her coaching staff as a temporary consulting coach. This action comes after the recent hiring of Anup Sridhar as her temporary coach. They will assist Sindhu together until December 2024, when a permanent coaching team decision is expected.

PV Sindhu‘s father PV Ramana stated that she plans to aim for a medal at the upcoming Asian Games and, as long as she avoids injuries, she will strive to compete in the following Olympics. He mentioned that she has returned to training at Gachibowli stadium in Hyderabad and will begin with the Arctic Open (October 8-13) in Finland.

Sindhu says she is thrilled to have Anup and Lee join her team

“I’m thrilled to have Anup and Lee joining my team during this crucial period,” Sindhu stated. “Anup’s strategic approach and understanding of Indian badminton have always impressed me, and I look forward to collaborating closely with him. It’s an honour to have Lee, with his meticulous preparation and legendary experience. I can’t wait to learn from him in the coming months.”

Hyun Il showed excitement about becoming part of Sindhu’s coaching team, mentioning that deciding to work with PV Sindhu was simple. Our past work together in the PBL highlighted her strong resolve and extraordinary skills. I am thrilled to be able to help her develop and succeed in the upcoming competitions.

This coaching change happens following the end of Agus Dwi Santoso’s contract with the Sports Authority of India. Sindhu is in search of a coach who can accompany her and be actively involved in her daily training sessions.
