Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered on Friday that all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route display their proprietors’ names. This decision comes a day after Uttar Pradesh police in Muzaffarnagar overturned their orders, making it “voluntary” for eateries to display the names of their proprietors, in response to opposition party anger.
According to the guideline, every food shop or cart owner must display the owner’s name on the board.
Decision taken to preserve sanctity of Kanwar pilgrims
The Chief Minister remarked that the decision was made to protect the sanctity of Kanwar pilgrims. Every eatery, whether a restaurant, a roadside dhaba, or a food cart, will now have to display the owner’s name.
Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal said that Muslims, using Hindu identities, sell non-vegetarian items to pilgrims. “They write names like Vaishno Dhaba Bhandar, Shakumbhari Devi Bhojanalaya, and Shuddh Bhojanalaya and sell non-vegetarian food,” according to the minister.

Uttarakhand Police issues directives for eateries to display owners’ name
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Police has issued directions for eateries along Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names of their proprietors on the board.
Speaking to the media, Haridwar’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Pramod Singh Dobal, said, “All those who operate hotels, dhabas, or street food stalls have been ordered to display the proprietor’s name, QR code, and mobile number at their establishment.” Those who fail to comply may face severe consequences, including removal from the Kanwar path.”
