July 18: Manipur Police continued its crackdown on narcotics under the state’s ongoing ‘War on Drugs’ campaign, arresting three persons in separate operations across Thoubal and Jiribam districts and seizing pharmaceutical drugs as well as nearly 57 kg of ganja.
The operations, carried out on July 17, also led to the arrest of a proclaimed offender wanted in a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) case, highlighting growing coordination between state police and central anti-narcotics agencies.
The latest operations serve as a reminder that the drug menace cuts across communities and regions in Manipur. Eliminating organised narcotics networks will require persistent policing, effective intelligence gathering and sustained socio-economic development alongside strict enforcement.
On 17.07.2026, Manipur Police arrested one Konjengbam Kulla Singh (47) of Lakhipur Chingkha Ward no. 9, Jiribam district from Lamkhai Bazar area of Jiribam town along with approximately 56.8 kgs of contraband ganja.#WarOnDrugs pic.twitter.com/WllF0yzqa0

Pharmaceutical Drugs Seized in Thoubal
In the first operation, police arrested Md. Zakir Hussain (44), alias Tomba, from his residence at Lilong Leihaokhong Leinung Hotel Maning in Thoubal district.
A search of the premises led to the seizure of suspected contraband, including bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, P-NIETRA-10 (N-10) tablets, and TROSPAS Plus capsules, medicines that are frequently diverted for illicit consumption and trafficking.
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

NCB Proclaimed Offender Arrested
In another operation in Thoubal district, police apprehended Mohd. Amir Khan alias Rahaman from Moijing Wangmataba Chingya Leikai.
According to police, Khan was a Proclaimed Offender in a case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi Zonal Unit, and was arrested following a request from the Additional Director of the NCB. Officials said the arrest reflects close coordination between state police and central agencies in tracking fugitives linked to interstate narcotics networks.
Nearly 57 kg Ganja Seized in Jiribam
In Jiribam district, police arrested Konjengbam Kulla Singh (47) from the Lamkhai Bazar area.
During the operation, officers recovered approximately 56.8 kg of ganja from his possession. He was taken into custody, and the seized contraband has been sent for further legal proceedings under the NDPS Act.
The latest arrests are part of Manipur Police’s sustained campaign to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating across the state. The northeastern state remains vulnerable to the movement of narcotics due to its proximity to the international border with Myanmar, making it a key transit point for both pharmaceutical drugs and illicit substances.
Police said investigations are continuing to identify suppliers, transporters and other members of the trafficking networks. Authorities have also appealed to the public to share information on drug-related activities to strengthen community participation in the anti-narcotics campaign.
