On Tuesday, ten people were killed by gunfire at a school in Graz, Austria. The shooter killed himself during the assault, stated city mayor Elke Kahr. She referred to the incident as a “horrible tragedy,” in which both students and faculty lost their lives.
The mass shooting occurred at BORG Dreierschützengasse high school, and the assailant, also a student, is said to have taken their own life during the assault.
Police believes the assailant acted independently
The shooter’s body was allegedly discovered in the school restroom. The identity and additional information about the shooter are still unknown, but authorities suspect the attacker acted independently.
The police said they rushed to the spot after getting a phone call reporting multiple gunshots being heard at the high school. “Special forces are among those dispatched to the high school after a call was made at 10 am (local time),” police spokesperson Sabri Yorgun said, adding that an investigation has begun.

Strict Gun Control Laws in Austria
Gun control rules are strictly enforced in Austria. Owning a firearm in the nation is restricted and necessitates a license. People must pass a fitness test, establish that they are competent by taking gun safety training, and store their guns securely. Certain weapons, such as sound suppressors, rapid-fire guns, high-capacity magazines, and pump or machine guns, are restricted or outright forbidden.
