September 2, 2026: At least five people, including a child, were killed and 63 others wounded after a US strike hit a home where a wedding celebration was under way in southern Iran, Iranian officials said on Wednesday, accusing Washington of carrying out a “brutal” attack on civilians.
The strike hit a residential building in Bamani district, near Kuhestak in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, along the strategic Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei. He condemned the attack and said it could not be viewed separately from what he described as a series of US strikes on civilian areas.
State-owned Press TV reported that five people were killed. Sirik County Governor Reza Shahidiyan told IRIB that 63 people were injured, including 50 women and children. The wounded were taken to a hospital in nearby Minab and were reported to be in stable condition.
Earlier reports from the Iranian Red Crescent and local officials had put the death toll at four, including a child, with more than 50 wounded. The Red Crescent said shrapnel from a US missile struck the house during the wedding celebration.
A child who survived the attack told semi-official Fars news agency that fighter jets were heard before the explosion.
“When we arrived there, an explosion occurred. It was very intense,” the child said, describing bricks, stones and cement hitting people inside the building. “Everyone was just ordinary civilians.”

The allegations emerged as the US Central Command announced a fresh wave of strikes against what it described as Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets. CENTCOM said the attacks targeted air-defence systems, radar installations, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
The US military said the operation followed attempted IRGC attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and on American forces in the region. A CENTCOM spokesman said the United States does not target civilians and that the military was aware of reports from Iranian state media about the wedding strike.
The latest attacks came after a weekend exchange of fire and amid a widening confrontation over the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blockaded since the start of the US-Israeli campaign against the country on February 28.
Iranian media reported explosions in several southern locations, including Konarak, Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island. Iranian state television also said Jiroft Airport in Kerman province had been targeted.
Baghaei vowed that Iran would respond to the latest attack, linking it to earlier strikes on Minab and Lamerd on the first day of the war. Iranian officials have said a US strike on an elementary school in Minab killed more than 150 people, while a strike on a sports hall in Lamerd reportedly killed at least 21.
Iran’s military said it retaliated by attacking US bases and assets in Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. Kuwait said it intercepted drones, while the IRGC vowed a “regretful response” and claimed its air defences had shot down an American drone.
