Popular television personality and model Shefali Jariwala, widely known for her breakout appearance in the early 2000s hit music video Kaanta Laga, passed away late Friday night at the age of 42. Her sudden death has left fans and the entertainment industry in deep shock.
The actress reportedly collapsed at her home in Andheri West, Mumbai, late on June 27. She was immediately rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital by her husband Parag Tyagi and close friends, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. The cause of death is currently unconfirmed, and a post-mortem is being conducted at Cooper Hospital to ascertain the medical reason.
Mumbai Police Investigates:
According to Mumbai Police, Jariwala’s body was found in her apartment shortly after 1:00 a.m., following an emergency call. Forensic teams were deployed to the scene, and an official investigation is underway. Police confirmed they are treating the death as sudden and unexplained, pending the post-mortem examination.
An officer close to the investigation told media outlets,
“No visible injuries were found on the body. All standard procedures are being followed, including questioning of domestic staff and family members.”
Security Guard Details Final Timeline:
In a key account, Shatrughan, the security guard of the housing society where Jariwala resided, spoke to the media and offered insight into the sequence of events that evening.
“Around 9 p.m., her husband Parag Tyagi arrived at the society on his motorcycle. I opened the gate for him. Everything seemed normal. Later, around 10:30 p.m., I saw Shefali being taken out of the building and rushed into a car with Parag and others. They were headed to the hospital,” he said.
He also added that just a day prior, Shefali and Parag were spotted casually walking their dog inside the society compound.
Later that night, a friend returned and informed the security staff that Shefali had passed away. Following this, police officials and a forensic team arrived at the building to begin their preliminary investigation.

Shefali Jariwala rose to overnight stardom in 2002 with the music video Kaanta Laga, which became a cultural phenomenon. She later appeared in the Salman Khan-starrer Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and participated in popular reality shows like Nach Baliye and Bigg Boss 13, where she earned praise for her strong and dignified presence.
She had also spoken openly in previous interviews about her battle with epilepsy, a condition she struggled with since her teenage years. While it’s unclear if her medical history played a role in her sudden demise, investigators are considering all aspects.

Tributes have poured in from across the Indian entertainment industry. Actress Himanshi Khurana, comedian Bharti Singh, and actor Kushal Tandon, who worked with Jariwala during her time on Bigg Boss, expressed their shock and sorrow over her sudden death. The All Indian Cine Workers Association also issued a public statement offering condolences to the family, highlighting her contribution to India’s pop culture and reality television era.

Shefali’s body remains at Cooper Hospital, where a post-mortem is being conducted. Authorities have stated that once the cause of death is confirmed, her body will be handed over to the family for final rites. No foul play has been suggested so far, but officials have not ruled out any possibilities until the medical report is complete.
