I respect all religions, but I stand firm on my faith. Those who criticize Sanatana Dharma or speak against it on social media will face consequences. Therefore, I am forming the ‘Narasimha Varahi Brigade’ to safeguard Sanatana Dharma: Pawan Kalyan

From igniting the Tirupati temple laddu controversy to launching the ‘Narasimha Varahi Brigade,’ and from threatening to take over the home ministry portfolio from the TDP to invoking Yogi Adityanath-style rhetoric, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan is rapidly positioning himself as a rising Hindutva force in southern politics.
Pawan Kalyan’s assertive stance has introduced potential challenges for both the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His bold declaration about potentially taking control of the home ministry from TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s trusted Home Minister Anitha signals his ambition to establish himself as a dominant figure in the state.
At the same time, his embrace of hardline Hindutva ideals could shift the political landscape, posing a fresh challenge to the BJP’s influence in Andhra Pradesh. With increasing popularity and a strong base of young supporters, Kalyan could soon emerge as a polarizing force in state politics, potentially reshaping the dynamics to the detriment of both the TDP and BJP.

Kalyan recently criticized Home Minister Anitha for what he deemed incompetence in handling law and order, warning that if the situation did not improve, he might “take over the home department” himself. His comments followed a recent surge in crimes against women, including the tragic sexual assault of a three-year-old, prompting him to claim that “peace and security have markedly deteriorated in Andhra Pradesh.” He advocated for a tougher stance, akin to the approach taken in Yogi Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at a rally in Pithapuram, he addressed the Home Minister directly: “You are the Home Minister, while I oversee Panchayati Raj, Forest, and Environment. Perform your duties well, or I will be forced to take over the home department as well.” In a call for stronger accountability, he added, “Political leaders and MLAs are here not just to ask for votes; they have responsibilities too. If I take charge, things will be different. We need to be like Yogi Adityanath; otherwise, nothing will change.” His words were met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
On Saturday, addressing a gathering in Eluru, Kalyan, who heads the Janasena Party (JSP), introduced the ‘Narasimha Varahi Brigade,’ a new wing within his party dedicated to “protecting Sanatana Dharma.” He declared, “I respect all religions, but I stand firm on my faith. Those who criticize Sanatana Dharma or speak against it on social media will face consequences. Therefore, I am forming the ‘Narasimha Varahi Brigade’ to safeguard Sanatana Dharma.”
