New Delhi, July 26: Days after a video purportedly showing Ghaziabad-based Hindutva leader Satyam Pandit allegedly abusing, assaulting and humiliating two young students travelling to Delhi to participate in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest at Jantar Mantar went viral, the Uttar Pradesh Police are yet to announce any action against him, triggering widespread criticism on social media.
The incident, recorded and shared by Pandit himself, has sparked outrage, with activists, journalists and opposition leaders demanding his arrest and questioning why no visible police action has followed despite the circulation of video footage. Social media platforms have been flooded with calls for strict legal action, with many users tagging the Ghaziabad Police and Uttar Pradesh Police.
Students Allegedly Assaulted on Way to Protest
According to videos circulating online, the two young men were travelling to Delhi to join the CJP-led agitation demanding reforms in the country’s examination system and accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET.
Pandit allegedly stopped the students, questioned them over their support for the protest, verbally abused them, physically manhandled them and subjected them to public humiliation while filming the entire episode. The footage has since been widely shared, drawing condemnation from several quarters. One of the students later described the incident as deeply intimidating and said they feared for their safety.
The alleged assault occurred against the backdrop of heightened tensions surrounding the Jantar Mantar protests, which witnessed large student gatherings, marches towards Parliament and clashes with police during the “Chalo Sansad” mobilisation.

Growing Demand for Police Action
The video prompted widespread outrage online, with citizens, activists and political leaders demanding that criminal proceedings be initiated against Pandit. Several posts questioned why police had not acted despite what critics described as clear visual evidence of the alleged assault.
AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj also criticised the handling of the student protests, arguing that incidents of intimidation against protesters reflected poorly on democratic values and the protection of peaceful dissent.
Pandit, who identifies himself as a Hindutva activist associated with the Rashtriya Hindu Veer Sena, has previously attracted controversy over alleged acts of vigilantism. Following the latest incident, he reportedly released additional videos defending his conduct and making further allegations against the protesters.
Political Questions Raised
Photographs of Pandit at public events alongside Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta have circulated widely on social media, prompting political opponents to question whether individuals associated with the ruling establishment enjoy preferential treatment. However, no evidence has been produced to establish that these photographs indicate any official relationship or have influenced the police response.
Neither the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office nor the Uttar Pradesh Police had publicly commented on these allegations at the time of writing.
Questions Over Rule of Law
The episode has reignited debate over the safety of peaceful protesters and the equal application of the law.
Civil liberties advocates argue that citizens—particularly students—must be free to travel to and participate in peaceful demonstrations without fear of intimidation or violence by private individuals. They say ideological differences cannot justify physical assault or public humiliation.
The apparent delay in police action, despite the circulation of videos widely shared online, has also raised questions about enforcement and accountability. Critics argue that prompt and impartial investigations are essential to maintain public confidence in the rule of law.
The CJP-led protests, which culminated in the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the government’s announcement of examination reforms, were centred on demands for greater transparency and accountability in India’s education system. The alleged assault on students travelling to join those demonstrations has added a fresh dimension to the debate over the protection of democratic rights and peaceful dissent.
As calls for action continue to grow, attention is now focused on whether the Uttar Pradesh Police will register a case and investigate the incident in accordance with the law.
