Former chief of Pakistan’s espionage agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Faiz Hameed, was arrested by the country’s powerful army in connection with a housing program controversy.
Disciplinary action initiated under Pakistan Army Act
In a statement issued on Monday, the Pakistan Army’s public relations arm stated, “Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd). Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.”

Pak Army formed inquiry committee in April to probe allegations against Hameed
Top City, a private housing scheme in Pakistan, accused Hameed of orchestrating a raid on the office and apartment of its owner, Moeez Khan.
According to a report in Dawn, the Pakistan Army constituted an investigative committee in April to investigate charges of abuse of authority against Hameed.

SC stated in November that allegations “cannot be left unattended”
The committee was constituted after Pakistan’s Supreme Court stated in an order issued in November last year that charges of a “extremely serious nature” against Hameed “cannot be left unattended” because if proven true, they would weaken the country’s institutions.
The Supreme Court also directed the housing society’s owner to contact the appropriate authorities, including the Defence Ministry, to seek punishment against the former spymaster and his assistants.
In March this year, a court in Rawalpindi sent Najaf Hameed, brother of the former ISI chief, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in connection with the case.
