US President-elect Donald Trump stated he would be pleased to host Chinese President Xi Jinping at his inauguration on January 20 next year, though he noted that no formal accord had been established. Trump had extended an invitation to the Chinese President in early November, soon after his election victory, but it remained uncertain if he accepted the offer.
“If he wants to join, I would be thrilled to have him.” “However, not much has been talked about,” Trump stated. He remarked that the two leaders shared “a very good relationship until COVID” but mentioned that some distance had developed since then.
Two individuals knowledgeable about the arrangements informed the BBC that Xi probably would not be present at the ceremony in January. It was stated that China’s ambassador to the United States was anticipated to attend, along with additional officials from Beijing.
CBC News stated that Trump had extended a personal invitation to Xi for the inauguration ceremony soon after Election Day.
As per a report by CBC News, there hasn’t been any foreign leader present at a US presidential inauguration previously. Trump’s spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, characterized the invitation as an attempt to uphold “an open conversation with leaders of nations that are not solely allies but also our adversaries and competitors.”
Trump, reflecting on his previous encounters with Xi, mentioned they had engaged in “hours and hours of conversation” and characterized Xi as “an incredible person.”

Should the meeting occur, it would provide Trump an opportunity to address important bilateral matters and pave the way for a possible agreement between the globe’s two largest economies, which are on the verge of an escalating trade conflict. Even if Xi delegates a representative to attend in his stead, it would nevertheless create new and essential avenues for dialogue.
Trump’s diplomatic gesture represents a shift from years of US policy, which has traditionally avoided inviting foreign leaders to presidential inaugurations. The action indicates that the new administration, especially Trump, considers China to be a key focus. It showcases Trump’s intention to strengthen his personal connection with Xi.
