Music producer Quincy Jones, known for producing Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” album, passes away

Legendary music producer Quincy Jones, known for producing Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” album, composing award-winning film and television scores, and working with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and many other musicians, passed away at the age of 91.

Arnold Robinson, Jones’ spokesperson, announced that he passed away on Sunday evening at his residence in the Bel Air area of Los Angeles, in the presence of his family.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Quincy’s music journey

Jones rose through the ranks from the South Side of Chicago gang life to the top of the entertainment industry, becoming one of the initial Black executives in Hollywood and creating an impressive collection of music that captures key moments in American rhythm and song. For many years, it was rare to come across a music enthusiast without owning at least one record featuring him, or a prominent figure in entertainment or other fields without some link to him.

Jones associated with presidents and foreign leaders, as well as movie stars, musicians, philanthropists, and business leaders. He went on tour with Count Basie and Lionel Hampton, arranged songs for Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, wrote the music for “Roots” and “In the Heat of the Night,” managed President Bill Clinton’s initial inaugural event, and supervised the star-studded recording of “We Are the World,” the 1985 charity single for famine relief in Africa.

Lionel Richie, who co-wrote “We Are the World” and was among the featured singers, would call Jones “the master orchestrator.”

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
