The Supreme Court announced on Monday that it would set up a committee made up of three former female high court judges to oversee the assistance and rehabilitation provided to people impacted by the violence in Manipur.
The committee will be led by former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal and comprise Justices (retd) Shalini P Joshi and Asha Menon, according to a bench chaired by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
It has been constituted to look into aspects other than investigation including rehabilitation, compensation, the CJI said.
The apex court also decided to appoint former IPS officer Datta Padsalgikar to oversee the investigation, and report back to the court. The court has proposed to get five officers, not below rank of DySP from other states to oversee CBI investigation.
