Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which honors Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s history, has resonated with viewers all around the country. At the box office, it is doing incredibly well.
But now, there is a fresh issue surrounding the movie. The descendants of Maratha fighters Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke have apparently objected, saying that their ancestors are unfairly and misleadingly portrayed. They threatened to sue for defamation for Rs 100 crore.
Director Laxman Utekar apologized publicly in reaction to the same. At a pivotal point in Chhaava, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is betrayed by his close supporters, Ganoji and Kanhoji, who team up with the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. The Maratha ruler dies as a result of this.
The warriors’ descendants, however, feel that this portrayal unfairly denigrates their heritage, thus it hasn’t gone over well with them.

Laxmikant Raje Shirke, the 13th descendant of Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke, harshly criticized the producers for what he described as a flagrant “misinterpretation of historical facts” after the movie’s release.
He was disappointed, saying that his family’s legacy is unfairly harmed by the portrayal.
Additionally, he declared that the director had received a legal notice and that a defamation suit of Rs 100 crore will be brought against him.
The Shirke family formally sent a notice to Laxman Utekar on February 20th to ask for an explanation of how their ancestors were portrayed in the movie. They also encouraged him to remedy the errors.
Furthermore, it has been reported that Laxman Utekar personally apologized to one of the descendants, Bhushan Shirke, for any inadvertent harm he may have caused the family. Additionally, he explained that neither Ganoji’s nor Kanhoji’s village names nor surname names were specifically mentioned in the movie.
