A somber atmosphere looms over the nation as it prepares to commemorate the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, with the tragic loss of Agniveer Lalit Kumar, a soldier from the 7 JAT Regiment, who attained martyrdom in a landmine blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati brigade area of Poonch district on Friday.
Two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) were also injured in the incident.
According to official sources, three soldiers received injuries in a powerful landmine blast during a routine area domination patrol. The injured soldiers were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Despite medical efforts, Agniveer Lalit Kumar succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the two injured JCOs is reported to be stable.
Authorities are examining whether the landmine was a remnant from past conflicts or a newly planted device, though no official statement has confirmed the details yet.
In a heartfelt tribute, the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps expressed its condolences in a post on X: “GoC and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol in the general area of Krishna Ghati Brigade on 25 July 2025, following a mine blast.
