The Home Ministry has appointed IPS officer Nalin Prabhat as the next Director General of Police (DGP) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Tenure of current DGP RR Swain ends on September 30

Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, will take over as DGP of Jammu & Kashmir after RR Swain’s tenure ends on September 30. Swain, a 1991 batch Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS officer, would retire after serving as DGP for 11 months.

In an order on Thursday, the Centre said, “Consequent upon joining the AGMUT cadre on inter-cadre deputation from AP cadre, Prabhat is hereby posted as Special DG, J&K police with immediate effect and till September 30. Further, upon retirement of R R Swain, IPS of 1991-batch of AGMUT-cadre on September 30, Prabhat is appointed as DGP, J&K police from October 1, and until further orders…”

On Wednesday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Prabhat’s three-year inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.

Prabhat has won three police gallantry medals

The 56-year-old IPS officer has had a remarkable career, earning three police gallantry awards. He has also led the ‘Greyhounds’, Andhra Pradesh’s specialised anti-Naxal unit.

Prabhat, who is from Himachal Pradesh, took over as Director General of the National Security Guard in April of this year. However, the government shortened his term and allowed his transfer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. Prabhat’s 56th birthday coincided with his deputation to the AGMUT cadre.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
