Matt Henry Replaces David Willey in Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2024 Squad
David Willey will be replaced by Matt Henry, a fast bowler from New Zealand, in the Lucknow Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Willey withdrew from the competition for personal reasons. He had retired from international cricket following the ODI World Cup last year. Prior to their match on Saturday, March 30 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow against Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab, LSG made the announcement.
After participating in back-to-back leagues, the PSL and ILT20, Willey was confirmed by Lucknow head coach Justin Langer earlier in March to miss the first half of the IPL. Before that, their top pacer, Mark Wood, who took five wickets in the previous season, also pulled out of the lucrative Twenty20 league.
With a net run rate of -1.000, KL Rahul’s Lucknow team is presently mired at the bottom of the standings. They lost to Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan by 20 runs at Sawai Mansingh Stadium to begin their campaign.
Since seven teams have already won at least one game in the tournament, Lucknow will be looking to start strong and establish a strong campaign.

Matt Henry’s IPL Journey and Recent Performances Ahead of Joining Lucknow Super Giants
Henry, on the other hand, participated in the IPL with both Chennai and Punjab. The seamer took 1 wicket at an economy rate of 14.2 during his 2 IPL games for Punjab in 2017.
Henry took 11 wickets in 7 matches last year, but a hamstring strain kept him out of the World Cup. He did, however, make a comeback in the five-match T20I series against Pakistan, where he claimed five wickets.
