How the crash occured?
A technical issue caused an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet to crash in Rajasthan’s Barmer on Monday. The pilot of the MiG-29 jet successfully ejected before the crash occurred.
The military aircraft, conducting a training mission from an Air Force base in the Barmer sector, experienced a complication and caught fire shortly after crashing into an unpopulated field near Uttarlai in Barmer.
“During a routine night training mission in the Barmer sector, an IAF MiG-29 encountered a critical technical snag, forcing the pilot to eject. The pilot is safe, and no loss of life or property was reported,” the Air Force posted on X.

Authorities stated that the military aircraft went down at approximately 10 p.m. outside the residential neighborhood.

Barmer District Collector Nishant Jain, Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena, and other district administrative officials immediately rushed to the site.
Superintendent of Police Narendra Meena mentioned that the presence of rainwater close to the crash site has caused challenges for the fire engines in accessing the area.
Previous such incidents
- On August 31, a malfunctioning helicopter being transported to Gauchar for repairs by an MI-17 chopper of the Indian Air Force crashed in the mountains close to Kedarnath. There were no injuries because the helicopter that crashed was empty.
- On August 21, an object dropped from an Indian Air Force fighter jet in the Pokhran region of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan . The event happened in a remote location and there were no casualties or harm to any belongings. A loud noise was heard by some individuals approximately one kilometer from the village, prompting them to quickly go to the location where they discovered scattered pieces of an unknown object.
- On June 4th, a Sukhoi 30 MK1 fighter jet with two pilots on board crashed in Nashik, Maharashtra. Both airplane pilots successfully ejected from the plane.
