The cause of the accident has not yet been established. A preliminary assessment is expected to be followed by a formal investigation to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the fire.
The AN-32 is a twin-engine tactical transport aircraft that has long served as a workhorse of the Indian Air Force, particularly in high-altitude and remote regions. The aircraft is extensively used for troop movement, logistics support, supply missions and humanitarian operations, especially in the challenging terrain of the Northeast and the Himalayan sector.
Saturday’s incident is likely to draw close scrutiny given the aircraft’s operational significance. More details are expected to emerge once the Air Force completes its initial evaluation and issues an updated statement.
