During a crowd-work show, comedian Pranit More was visibly engaged in a misogynistic and disgusting joke made by a Gurugram-based man named Himanshu Jangra, which brings us to the question: How far can we possibly go in the name of comedy?
The explicitness and violation of basic human decency are often overlooked by comedians in the name of free speech. A woman’s consent and dignity come into question when frustrated masculinity takes over the mic, and those who are influential enough to take a stand end up taking the garb of silence and encouraging such behavior.
The so-called “chad” mentality forced upon men contributes to the repugnance towards every other man who may or may not condemn such nuisance.
What Sparked the Pranit More Controversy?
The controversy began during a crowd-work segment in which Himanshu Jangra made a joke about demanding sexual favors from a girl in return for treating her to a biryani worth Rs 370.
Netizens expressed outrage over this statement, as it was a mere degradation of a woman’s dignity and promoted a chauvinistic mentality. While the joke was widely condemned, Pranit himself laughed at it along with the crowd.
Social Media Backlash and Public Reactions
The outrage has reached a stage where several social media personalities have shared their opinions on the incident.
Influencer Sakshi Shivdasani was among the voices who strongly criticized the clip. She called out Pranit for posting and amplifying the moment, saying such content normalizes dangerous ideas under the label of humor.
Meanwhile, Kusha Kapila focused on how creators often give visibility to regressive statements without considering their impact. By this point, the Rs 370 biryani controversy had spread across platforms. It was no longer restricted to comedy followers; the clip had entered mainstream pop culture.
Pranit More’s Apology and Response
Pranit More finally issued a statement regarding the controversy, where he apologized for not taking a stand at the moment and claimed that he had been carried away by the atmosphere and the crowd.
He took full responsibility for the controversy and stated, “I deserve all the hate.”
In a recently circulated video, Pranit claimed that his Instagram account had been disabled and that he had been facing intense backlash and hate.
Old Clips Resurface Amid Growing Criticism
Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and X (formerly Twitter) have been flooded with people posting other clips from his stand-up shows and highlighting more instances of similar misconduct allegedly occurring during his performances.
A viral clip of Pranit from the reality show Bigg Boss pointed to his aggressive and extremely vulgar behavior toward other female contestants on the show.
Internet Divided Over Consequences
Even though he issued an apology, the internet remains divided. News of Himanshu Jangra being fired from his job at a Gurugram-based IT company sparked a new debate online.
