CJP spokesperson Saurav Das has slammed the FIR against 25-year-old Ruchika Singh, calling it a misuse of the criminal justice system and demanding an end to what he described as the harassment of young protesters.

W DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das on Friday came out in strong support of 25-year-old Ruchika Singh, condemning the criminal case registered against her for allegedly using objectionable language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent anti-paper leak protests. Das accused the authorities of weaponising the criminal justice system to intimidate young protesters and suppress dissent.
In a post on X, Das said the FIR against Singh was legally untenable and amounted to harassment.
“The misuse of criminal machinery against Ruchika Singh is unacceptable. Profanity does not attract a criminal case,” he wrote.
The CJP leader also questioned the priorities of law enforcement agencies, arguing that police resources should be directed towards serious criminal cases rather than targeting a young protester.
“Fifty per cent of Lok Sabha MPs have criminal cases against them, close to 100 MPs in the BJP. The police can focus their energy towards them, not a 25-year-old. Harassment of the young must STOP immediately!” Das said.

His remarks come after the Noida Police registered an FIR against Singh over comments she allegedly made during the CJP’s “Sansad Chalo” march, organised as part of nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. According to the police, the case was filed after a complaint alleging that Singh used abusive language against the Prime Minister in a video that later circulated widely on social media.
Police have booked Singh under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alleging that her remarks were likely to provoke a breach of peace and disturb public order. The investigation is currently underway.
The FIR against Singh is among a series of criminal cases registered against protesters following the CJP-led agitation, which drew thousands of students and young people demanding accountability over the alleged examination paper leak. In recent days, authorities have also initiated action against several social media accounts accused of circulating objectionable, manipulated or AI-generated content related to the protests.
The CJP has criticised what it describes as a widening crackdown on student activists and supporters of the movement. The party maintains that the protests were a democratic expression of public anger over alleged irregularities in public examinations and has repeatedly demanded the withdrawal of criminal cases filed against students and other participants.
The latest controversy adds to the ongoing political debate over the government’s response to the protests, with opposition leaders accusing authorities of stifling dissent, while the police have maintained that action has been taken strictly in accordance with the law.
