The Karnataka government has pledged to take all necessary action to alleviate the acute water crisis that Bengaluru, the state capital, is currently experiencing. On Tuesday, DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister, promised to do whatever it takes to offer the city a sufficient supply of water.

“Bengaluru Faces Acute Water Crisis: Calls for Urgent Action on Mekedatu Reservoir Project”

Shivakumar acknowledged the seriousness of the situation when he spoke to the media, saying that the lack of rainfall has caused even the borewell at his own house to dry up. “We are facing a dire water crisis, but will ensure water supply to the city at any cost,” he stated.

Due to the city’s dry borewells, residential societies in Bengaluru have advised residents to use water wisely on a daily basis, exacerbating the city’s water problems. According to the report, private water tankers have been charging outrageous prices during the crisis; some have even demanded up to ₹3,000 for the delivery of water.

The Mekedatu reservoir project, which the Deputy Chief Minister thinks could help Bengaluru’s water problems, has been delayed by the Central government, he added. “Securing Bengaluru’s water supply was the primary reason we started the Mekedatu project. The project has not been approved, despite our padyatra and pressure on the Center to approve it. Given the seriousness of the situation, the Center ought to at least authorize it right away,” he stated.

“State Government Implements Measures to Alleviate Bengaluru’s Escalating Water Crisis”

Shivakumar also disclosed that in order to supply water to urban areas, officials have been directed by the state government to use water sources located within a 15-kilometer radius of cities. Plans are also in place to use water tankers to transport water to Bengaluru from surrounding towns like Hosakote, Channapatna, Magadi, and Ramanagara.

Bengaluru’s water crisis has gotten out of control, and the state government is determined to look into every avenue to deal with it and make sure the city’s citizens have access to clean water.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
