With this historic win at the Badminton Asia Team Championships, the Indian women's badminton team secured their place in the showdown, where they will lock horns with Thailand. Thailand won in the final by overcoming Indonesia with a convincing 3-1 victory in the other semifinal clash.

In a historic triumph on Friday in Selangor, Malaysia, the Indian women’s badminton team secured their maiden final appearance at the Badminton Asia Team Championships by defeating Japan 3-2. Despite double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu’s loss in her singles match, the team rallied with remarkable performances from Ashmita Chaliha and teenager Anmol Kharb in their singles matches.

Additionally, the doubles pairing of Gayatri Gopichand and Jolly Treesa clinched a crucial victory, paving the way for India’s historic achievement.

Badminton Asia Team Championships: PV Sindhu vs. Aya Ohori:

The high-stakes encounter commenced with PV Sindhu locking horns with Japan’s Aya Ohori. Despite Sindhu’s valiant efforts, Ohori emerged victorious in two closely contested sets of 21-17 and 22-20, handing Japan an early 1-0 lead.

Badminton Asia Team Championships: Treesa-Gayathri vs. Matsuyama-Shida:

With India trailing 0-1, Treesa and Gayathri took to the court against Japan’s Matsuyama and Shida. In a pulsating battle that stretched to three sets, the Indian duo showcased remarkable resilience, eventually clinching a hard-fought victory with a scoreline of 21-17, 16-21, 22-20, leveling the tie at 1-1.

The momentum shifted in India’s favor as Ashmita Chaliha produced a stunning upset by outclassing former world champion Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets of 21-17, 21-14, propelling India into a 2-1 lead.

Japan mounted a spirited comeback, with Miyaura and Sakuramoto overpowering India’s Sindhu and Ponappa in two commanding sets of 21-14, 21-11, leveling the scores at 2-2 and setting the stage for a thrilling finale.

Badminton Asia Team Championships: Anmol Kharb vs. Nidaira Natsuki:

In the pivotal deciding match, all eyes were on Anmol Kharb as she squared off against Nidaira Natsuki. With the weight of expectations resting on her shoulders, Kharb showcased nerves of steel, delivering a stellar performance to vanquish her opponent in straight sets of 21-14, 21-18, clinching the decisive victory for India and propelling them into the finals.
