India stages remarkable comeback; beat Pakistan in Champions Trophy Hockey
India continued their strong performance by making a remarkable comeback to defeat their long-standing rivals Pakistan 2-1 in the final group-stage match of the Asian Champions Trophy on September 14, further asserting their superiority. India, entering the game as the favored team, had not lost a match in the tournament.
However, the defending champions were surprised when Pakistan’s Ahmad Nadeem scored early in the first quarter, giving his team an unexpected advantage.
India conceded an early goal but soon made comeback
India’s defense faltered, leading to the early goal, but their offensive front reacted promptly. Shortly after that, India was awarded a penalty corner, and captain Harmanpreet Singh, composed in a stressful situation, leveled the score with a strong drag-flick.
At the start of the second quarter, India increased their offensive pressure, and soon after, Harmanpreet scored again, this time with a penalty kick, increasing India’s advantage.

India’s aggressive play stole the show
Pakistan’s defense had a hard time dealing with India’s aggressive forward line, as their weak positioning was taken advantage of consistently. Even though Nadeem and Ajaz Ahmad attempted to spark Pakistan’s offense, they did not receive sufficient backing.

Pakistan faced more difficulties after Abubakar Mahmood had to be carried off on a stretcher due to a severe knee injury.
Although Pakistan made late pushes, India’s defense remained strong, ensuring their unbeaten record and place in the semi-finals. Despite India’s previous 10-2 victory over Pakistan, this match turned out to be a more fiercely contested and intense battle.
