Air India has taken a significant step forward in modernizing air travel by offering in-flight Wi-Fi on domestic flights. On Wednesday, the Tata Group-owned airline became the first to introduce this service, allowing passengers to make phone calls, send messages, browse the internet, and scroll through social media during their flight.

“From January 1, 2025, passengers can access Wi-Fi services aboard Air India’s A350, B787-9 and selected A321neo aircraft, with complimentary access during the initial phase,” the airline announced in a press statement. The service is now available on both domestic and international flights operated with these aircraft.

“This initiative positions Air India as the pioneer in providing in-flight Wi-Fi services on domestic routes, allowing passengers to maintain internet connectivity, browse websites, use social media platforms, conduct business activities and communicate with contacts whilst airborne,” the release said.

“Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever be one’s purpose, we are confident that our guests will appreciate having the option of connecting to the web and enjoy the new Air India experience on board these aircraft,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India.

The service can support multiple devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones with iOS or Android systems, once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet. Following successful trials on international routes to New York, London, Paris, and Singapore, the service is now being expanded domestically.

The complimentary Wi-Fi service will gradually extend to additional aircraft in Air India’s fleet. Passengers can activate the service by connecting to the ‘Air India Wi-Fi’ network, entering their PNR and surname on the portal, and enjoying complimentary internet. However, availability may depend on factors like satellite connectivity, bandwidth usage, routes, and government restrictions.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
