Dharmendra succeeds Naresh Kumar as new Delhi chief secretary
The tenure of Naresh Kumar ended on Aug 31, leading to the appointment of Senior IAS officer Dharmendra as the new Delhi government chief secretary.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order on Saturday transferring Dharmendra, a 1989-batch officer, from Arunachal Pradesh to Delhi and appointing him as the chief secretary.
“With the approval of the competent authority, Dharmendra, IAS (AGMUT 1989), is hereby transferred from Arunachal Pradesh to Delhi and posted as chief secretary, GNCTD, wef 01.09.2024 or with effect from the date of joining, whichever is later,” according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs order, PTI reported.

Who is Dharmendra?
Dharmendra, an IAS officer from the 1989 AGMUT cadre batch, served as the chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh before being moved to Delhi. Having been appointed as the Delhi chief secretary, a high-ranking official in the AGMUT cadre will assume responsibilities just before the upcoming February assembly election.
In his previous tenure, working for the Delhi government, Dharmendra, a civil engineer by training, held various positions such as secretary in the Revenue, Irrigation and Flood Control, and Industries departments.
He was the chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council before moving to Arunachal Pradesh in April 2022.
He has worked in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, as well as in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. Additionally, he has served as Development Commissioner for Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, and was the Resident Commissioner in Aizawl.
