Batting icon Virat Kohli has joined the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in a prestigious group of cricketers on Sunday, March 2, by becoming the seventh Indian and the 22nd player globally to compete in 300 ODIs.
The Champions Trophy 2025 game featuring India and New Zealand, held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, marks Kohli’s 300th ODI appearance for India.
The 36-year-old cricketer hailing from Delhi made his ODI debut for India on August 18, 2008, facing Sri Lanka in Dambulla and has since participated in 299 matches.
Kohli, with 14,085 runs, ranks as the third highest run scorer in the 50-over format and achieved his 51st ODI century in the recent match versus Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. He finished not out on 100 runs off 111 balls in that match and, while at the crease, struck 7 fours to assist India in achieving the target of 242 runs in 42.3 overs, losing four wickets.
Mohammad Azharuddin, the former captain of India, was the first cricketer to compete in 300 ODIs. Azhar made his 300th ODI appearance for India versus Australia in October 1998.
Azhar participated in 334 matches for India over his 15-year career, accumulating 9378 runs, which included seven centuries and 58 half-centuries. Furthermore, he also took 12 wickets.
