The recent death of model and former Miss Pune, Twisha Sharma, has sparked intense debate about the accused and the accusers as the media speculates about what may have happened.
A court in Bhopal extends the judicial custody of Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, by fourteen days.
According to reports, Twisha’s death is being blamed on her matrimonial family, who have been accused of inflicting physical and psychological abuse on her.
Allegations Against the Matrimonial Family
Her husband, Samarth Singh, was reportedly a drug user, a fact he allegedly kept hidden from her before their marriage. The revelation reportedly had a significant impact on Twisha.
Her unplanned pregnancy became a source of tension, as she did not want to raise a child while dealing with her husband’s alleged drug issues and ultimately opted for an abortion.
The abortion was reportedly condemned by her mother-in-law, retired Judge Giribala Singh, who allegedly questioned her character by asking, “Whose child did you abort?”
Events Leading Up to Twisha Sharma’s Death
Following her death on May 12, 2026, Twisha’s family accused her in-laws of being responsible and stated that they were aware of the conditions she was facing.
Reports suggest that Twisha had planned to travel to Indore to stay with her brother, Harshit Sharma, but was found dead before she could leave. The Singh family allegedly pressured her to transfer investments and bonds worth approximately ₹20 lakh to them and subjected her to continuous harassment.
Twisha’s mother, despite reportedly being aware of the situation, remained silent due to concerns about social reputation and fear of public ridicule.
Questions Raised by the Case
The case raises an important question: How could two highly educated families allow such circumstances to develop?
Giribala Singh is a retired judge. A woman of her experience and stature should have been a symbol of dignity and justice. However, allegations suggest that patriarchal and orthodox attitudes may have played a role in the family’s treatment of Twisha. Despite being a family of professionals with no apparent financial difficulties, allegations of greed have emerged. Critics argue that the case reflects how power and influence can be misused at the expense of respect and dignity.
Similarly, allegations regarding Samarth Singh’s behaviour have drawn scrutiny. If it is proven that he concealed significant personal issues before marriage and subjected Twisha to abuse, it would represent a serious breach of trust and responsibility.
Twisha’s own family has also faced criticism. Many believe that silence can sometimes be as damaging as direct wrongdoing. Some argue that earlier intervention may have prevented the tragedy and spared them the loss of their daughter and sister.
