On Tuesday, the Trinamool Congress put forward party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s name for a parliamentary delegation representing all parties for Operation Sindoor global outreach. The decision follows just a day after the party’s Baharampur MP Yusuf Pathan withdrew from the delegation.
Announcing the decision, the party wrote on X, “We are delighted to share that our Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has nominated Nat’l GS Abhishek Banerjee to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India’s global outreach against terrorism.”
The Centre has selected 51 political figures, lawmakers, and ex-ministers from various parties to form seven delegations visiting global capitals to convey India’s determination to combat terrorism in light of Operation Sindoor.

TMC unhappy Centre didn’t consult party
However, the Trinamool Congress expressed dissatisfaction that the Centre did not seek the party’s opinion prior to selecting members.
Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee asserted that the “mother party” did not receive any requests for names for the delegation.
“They (Centre) cannot decide the name. If they request the mother party, the party will decide the name. This is the tradition; this is the system. We back the Central government on the external affairs policy and are providing them our full support,” Mamata Banerjee told the reporters.

Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee previously emphasized that the party backs the government on issues related to national security, yet he insisted that determining the party’s representatives is not the government’s responsibility.
“We support the Central Government in all choices concerning the national interest, fighting terrorism, and protecting the nation. However, the Central Government cannot determine who will represent the Trinamool Congress in the delegation. It is our party’s right to select our representatives. If you require one member, we can offer five—but the Central Government needs to show genuine intent,” he stated.
