April 26, 2026: Shots were reportedly fired on Saturday night at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner held at the Washington Hilton, triggering panic and a rapid evacuation of President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials.
According to early reports from multiple media accounts and eyewitness posts on social media, loud bangs resembling gunfire were heard inside or near the ballroom while the event was underway. The disturbance caused immediate chaos, with security personnel rushing to evacuate high-profile attendees from the venue.
Videos circulating online showed Secret Service agents escorting President Trump, Vice President Vance, and members of the administration, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, out of the ballroom as the situation unfolded.

The venue was placed under lockdown following the incident, with portions of the program reportedly suspended. Some reports indicated the event may have resumed in a limited form later in the night, though details remain unclear.
The WHCA Dinner, traditionally a high-profile gathering of journalists, politicians, and public figures, marked President Trump’s first attendance as sitting president. The event had already drawn heightened attention due to his long-standing tensions with sections of the media.
The evening also featured entertainer Oz Pearlman as host, with Trump expected to deliver remarks before the disruption. Protests had been reported outside the venue prior to the incident.
As of early Sunday, authorities had not released a detailed official statement confirming the full sequence of events, the identity of the suspect, or any final casualty count beyond reports regarding the shooter. Investigations are ongoing.
