Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will return to her homeland if the new caretaker administration decides to hold elections, her son has stated.
Caretaker Govt led by Muhammad Yunus sworn in on Thursday
Hasina fled to India on Monday following weeks of deadly protests that forced her to resign. A caretaker government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus was sworn in on Thursday, and it will be in charge of holding elections.
Speaking to the Times of India, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who lives in the United States, stated, “For the time being, she (Hasina) is in India. She will return to Bangladesh whenever the interim government agrees to hold an election.”

Hasina’s Awami League party not in the interim government
Following a student-led revolt against the longstanding former prime minister, who resigned after widespread violence claimed the lives of over 300 people and injured thousands more, Hasina’s Awami League party is not represented in the interim administration.
She is taking refuge in the vicinity of New Delhi at a safe place. She intends to apply for asylum in Britain, according to reports in Indian media; however, the British Home Office has not commented to inquiries.
