April 27, 2027:
Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday, with both sides focusing on the ongoing Gulf conflict and the impact of the United States–Israel military campaign against Iran.
According to officials and media reports, the discussions centred on the escalating regional situation, including continued tensions in the Persian Gulf, disruptions to shipping routes, and stalled diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Sources said Araghchi told Putin that efforts to reach a deal with the US remain stalled due to the Trump administration’s hardline position and “excessive demands.” The two leaders dicussed the way forward to end the crisis, sources said.

Araghchi briefed Putin on the latest developments following weeks of military pressure from US and Israeli actions, as well as Iran’s diplomatic outreach to regional and global partners. The Iranian minister emphasised the need for coordinated responses and stronger engagement with allies amid the ongoing crisis.
The Iranina Foreign minister also carried a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to Putin.

Russia, in turn, conveyed its solidarity with Iran and reaffirmed its support for a swift resolution of the conflict through political and diplomatic means. Moscow has positioned itself as a key interlocutor in the crisis, maintaining close coordination with Tehran while calling for de-escalation.
” Russia hopes the Iranian people will “weather this difficult period” and that peace will ultimately prevail across the country,” Putin said, according to Tehran Times.
Reports said Putin could talk to Trump to help secure a speedy resolution to the crisis.
The meeting comes at a time when negotiations between Iran and the United States remain stalled, despite backchannel efforts through regional mediators. The conflict, triggered by US-Israel strikes earlier this year, has led to significant instability across the region, including disruptions in oil flows and heightened military tensions.
Analysts say Russia’s engagement reflects its broader strategy of backing Iran diplomatically while seeking to stabilise the region and prevent further escalation. The talks between Putin and Araghchi are seen as part of ongoing efforts to shape a potential pathway toward ceasefire and renewed negotiations.
