Dhyan Mandapam Meditation Centre’s Legacy
The Dhyan Mandapam meditation centre is the same place where Swami Vivekananda meditated in 1892 to get a clear vision for the future of India, Following in Swami Vivekananda’s footsteps, PM Modi has commenced his meditation to highlight the spiritual heritage of India and also symbolise a journey of inner reflection and national pride. The spot is a cross point of the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The memorial is placed on the rock where Vivekananda is claimed to have acquired enlightenment. According to legend, goddess Kanyakumari prayed to Lord Shiva atop this rock, earning it a prominent place in India’s religious landscape. There is a specially preserved section of the granite that is thought to be the goddess’s footprint. The memorial features an attractive combination of many architectural types.
