N Muruganandam succeeds Shiv Das Meena
On August 19, the Tamil Nadu government appointed N Muruganandam as the state’s new Chief Secretary, succeeding Shiv Das Meena.
Muruganandam assumed office in the Secretariat following a government order in this regard.
Muruganandam is a 1991-batch IAS officer from Tamil Nadu cadre. Until recently, he was the Chief Minister’s Secretary-I. He is planning to retire in December 2027.

He graduated from computer science engineering and possesses an MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad.
Muruganandam has held crucial roles in the administration. He was the Collector of three districts (Coimbatore, Karur, and Chennai), as well as the Secretary of Finance and Industries.
Muruganandam was also the Resident Commissioner at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi. He served as Industries Secretary under both the AIADMK and DMK regimes and was instrumental in the government’s efforts to attract investments.

Shiv Das Meena, who will retire in October, has been appointed chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA). According to a General Order issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department, a Selection Committee submitted recommendations that led to Mr. Meena’s appointment to the position.
G Lakshmipathy has also been named by the State administration as the Chief Minister’s Joint Secretary. He served as Thoothukudi’s Collector till recently.
Lakshmipathy oversaw flood relief efforts in the southern area in December 2023–January 2024 following unseasonal rains, together with Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi. K. Elambahavath has been appointed Collector of Thoothukudi by the State government.
