After being hospitalized earlier in the day, Mukhtar Ansari, a jailed mobster turned politician, passed away from a heart arrest. Having served five terms as an MLA, the former Mau resident was incarcerated in both Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2005.
Death of 63-Year-Old Mukhtar Ansari in Uttar Pradesh Jail Prompts Investigation
The 63-year-old, who was being held at a jail in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, passed away on Thursday at 8:25 p.m., according to a medical bulletin. Jail officials had brought him to the Rani Durgavati Medical College in the district. It stated that while being carried to the hospital, he was unconscious and had complained of vomiting.
“A group of nine physicians gave the patient emergency medical attention. However, the patient passed away from cardiac arrest in spite of their best attempts.”

Not long after Ansari was brought to the hospital, a sizable police contingent was stationed outside. Following Ansari’s passing, prohibitive measures under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been enforced throughout the state of Uttar Pradesh.
