Looks like the smartphone AI race is heating up- and Perplexity AI might be the next big name to land in your pocket. According to bloomberg report, Motorola is all set to team up with Perplexity as an alternative to Google’s Gemini AI on its phones, starting with the popular Motorola Razr series. Not just that — Motorola is even working on a custom user interface specially designed for Perplexity and plans to actively market it to attract more users.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also in talks with Perplexity, though nothing has been finalized yet. At the moment, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series uses Google’s Gemini for its AI features, which are already ahead of Apple’s struggling Apple Intelligence. If Samsung does decide to bring Perplexity on board, it could make Galaxy phones an even easier choice for AI-focused users.
What’s not clear yet is how Samsung would integrate Perplexity into its devices. Options could range from simply adding the Perplexity app to Galaxy phones, featuring it on the Galaxy Store, or something more ambitious. But replacing Gemini as the main AI assistant? That seems unlikely — at least for now.
For those unfamiliar, Perplexity is considered one of the top AI models out there, often competing with big names like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. It’s known for giving quick, accurate answers, and in some areas, it even outperforms Google’s Gemini. Having both Gemini and Perplexity available on a phone would give users more choice in how they want their AI assistant to behave.
