Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain confident of winning gold medal at Paris Olympics
Lovlina Borgohain, who won a bronze medal in the Welterweight category at Tokyo 2020, is preparing to make a mark in Paris 2024. Borgohain stated her desire and confidence in winning gold at the Paris Olympics during a recent interview on JioCinema’s ‘The Dreamers’.
Borgohain’s confidence is bolstered by a succession of strong performances, including gold at the 2023 World Boxing Championships and silver at the 2022 Asian Games.
Borgohain reflects on her inspirational journey
Borgohain reflected on her inspirational journey and recounted a sweet childhood memory that fueled her passion for boxing. “When I was younger, I knew little about boxing. My father, who worked on tea plantations, came home one Sunday with chocolates wrapped in a newspaper with an article about Muhammad Ali. That moment piqued my interest in boxing. My path began with martial arts, and then I moved on to compete in national boxing, relying on my martial arts skills for guidance,” she said.
Borgohain’s shift from Welterweight (69 kg) to Middleweight (75 kg) represented a watershed moment in her career. “I used to frequently win bronze medals, but after moving to the 75 kg bracket, I’ve experienced a significant improvement. Despite initial concerns about weight gain, it has been useful. I’ve won four straight gold medals at the National Games, National Championships, World Championships, and Asian Championships. This accomplishment gives me the confidence to win an Olympic gold.”
