June 28, 2026: What began as a college-age romance between two young members of Pune’s business community has evolved into one of Maharashtra’s most disturbing murder investigations. As police continue piecing together the conspiracy behind realtor Ketan Agarwal’s killing, investigators are now turning their attention to the circumstances that may have driven the accused to such an extreme step.
In the latest development, Lonavala Rural Police questioned Siya Goyal’s parents for more than five hours, along with her brother Sahil, as they sought answers about the family’s knowledge of Siya’s relationship with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary. Investigators are examining whether family opposition to the relationship and mounting social pressure played a role in the events that culminated in Ketan’s alleged murder.
A Romance That Didn’t Stay Secret
According to police, Siya and Chetan first met at a Diwali gathering in October last year. Their friendship soon blossomed into a romantic relationship, helped by the fact that both families ran businesses in Pune’s Market Yard area.
For months, the relationship reportedly remained private. However, investigators believe everything changed during a cricket tournament organised by the local traders’ community.
Chetan was participating in the tournament, while Siya was seen enthusiastically cheering for him from the stands. Their public display of affection reportedly caught the attention of several members of the Agarwal community, and word quickly spread among relatives and acquaintances.
Police believe the tournament became the turning point, with the rumours eventually reaching Siya’s family and exposing a relationship they allegedly did not approve of.

An Arranged Match, A Growing Conflict
Soon after learning about the relationship, investigators say Siya’s family began searching for a suitable groom within their own community.
Their choice was Ketan Agarwal—a well-educated businessman who had recently returned from the United States and was serving as a director in a reputed company. By all accounts, he appeared to be an ideal match.
The engagement went ahead, but police suspect Siya remained emotionally committed to Chetan and was unwilling to proceed with the marriage.
According to investigators, instead of ending the engagement or openly challenging her family’s decision, Siya and Chetan allegedly began discussing ways to eliminate Ketan. Police claim the pair researched methods of staging a murder as an accident and made several unsuccessful attempts before allegedly pushing Ketan off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18.

Family Under the Scanner
During Saturday’s marathon questioning, investigators reportedly asked Siya’s parents detailed questions about when they first became aware of the relationship, how they reacted after the cricket tournament, and whether they had pressured their daughter to marry within the community.
Her brother Sahil was also questioned as police attempted to reconstruct the family’s interactions in the months leading up to the crime.
Investigators are now analysing call records, digital communications and witness statements to establish a detailed timeline of the relationship, the engagement and the alleged conspiracy.
Beyond the Crime Scene
While the investigation remains focused on the two accused, police are also attempting to understand the social environment surrounding the case.
Officers are examining whether concerns over family honour, community expectations and the fear of social stigma may have influenced the decisions that allegedly led to the murder.
The findings could add another dimension to a case that has already shocked Maharashtra—not only as an alleged premeditated murder, but also as a tragic example of how personal relationships, family expectations and societal pressures can collide with devastating consequences.
The investigation is continuing, with more questioning and forensic analysis expected in the coming days.
