38 people die in Uttar Pradesh in a day after lightning strikes at various places
On Wednesday, lightning struck and killed at least 38 people in separate incidences across Uttar Pradesh. The deaths were recorded as the state dealt with flooding, which had brought normal life to a standstill.
Pratapgarh had the highest deaths from lightning strikes, with 11, followed by Sultanpur with seven, Chandauli with six, Mainpuri with five, Prayagraj with four, and Auraiya, Deoria, Hathras, Varanasi, and Siddharthnagar with one apiece.
Dozens of people in these districts have also sustained burn injuries.

Remains of dead people sent for postmortem
In Pratapgarh, deaths occurred in five distinct regions, and their remains were collected and transported for postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, in Chandauli, eastern Uttar Pradesh, numerous persons were hurt and are being treated at the local hospital. On Wednesday, between 4 and 6 p.m., the district had intense rain and lightning. The majority of the victims, including two cousins aged 13 and 15, were struck by lightning while working on a farm or fishing.
Three of the seven deaths in Sultanpur were of children. Lightning struck the victims as they were planting paddies, going to gather mangoes, or fetching water. On Wednesday, one woman died on the spot after being struck by lightning while sheltering behind a tree during a heavy rain storm.
