August 24: Police in Haryana’s Kurukshetra are investigating the alleged murder of a man whose wife was found at the scene with injuries after apparently jumping from the terrace of their rented home.
Rajesh and his wife, Vimla Devi, lived in a rented house near Raj Palace on Pehowa Road. According to their landlord, Rinku, the couple were arguing loudly at around 5 pm when he went to the terrace to check on them.
Rinku told police that he found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries to his abdomen. He alleged that Vimla was attempting to put tissue protruding from Rajesh’s abdominal wound into a bag. When she noticed the landlord, she allegedly jumped from the terrace.

Vimla suffered injuries in the fall and was taken to hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Police are yet to record her statement.
Rajesh, a native of Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, had been living in Kurukshetra with Vimla for about a year. He worked in the supply department of a water-trading company on Pehowa Road.
The post-mortem examination found that Rajesh had suffered a deep abdominal wound, approximately 35 centimetres long, apparently caused by a sharp-edged weapon. His intestines had protruded through the wound. Doctors also reported that a portion of his liver and his right kidney were missing. Police are investigating how the injuries occurred and the circumstances surrounding the missing organs.

Three knives of different sizes were recovered from the house. Station House Officer Surinder Singh and other police personnel examined the scene and collected forensic evidence.
According to the landlord, Vimla was involved in traditional healing and exorcism-related practices, and the couple frequently quarrelled. Police, however, have not established a motive for the alleged killing.
The couple had been married for several years and had no children. Investigators are examining their relationship, any history of disputes and the sequence of events that preceded Rajesh’s death.
Police said further progress in the case will depend on Vimla’s statement, forensic findings and the post-mortem report.
