The father of the 31-year-old doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital received a call on Friday morning. The caller stated that his daughter had died by suicide. When he arrived at the hospital, he discovered that his daughter’s body had been recovered in a seminar hall, half-clothed and bruised. Investigations eventually showed that the doctor had been raped and murdered in a gruesome assault that shocked the nation.
Family was earlier told victim died by suicide
“Your daughter committed suicide, according to the assistant superintendent of the department of chest medicine who contacted. The official did not reveal his identity during the call, the woman’s father told the newspaper, “and then we saw the reality when we reached the hospital.”
Allegations that the college administration tried to cover up after the body of the female doctor was discovered have been sparked by the father’s comments. She had dinner on Thursday night with four of her night shift coworkers, according to the probe. To get to the bottom of the issue, police are also interviewing with them and other parties.
Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer who frequented the hospital, has been arrested, and police say other suspects will be apprehended within the next four to five days.
To ascertain why the woman’s family was informed that she committed suicide, the state-run hospital’s Assistant Superintendent and Head of Department have been called in.

Family not permitted to view the body after they arrived at hospital
According to the woman’s mother, they were not permitted to view the body even after they arrived at the hospital. “I collapsed at their feet, pleading for permission to see my daughter. However, they didn’t. Nobody has any idea of what I went through. We were able to see her around 2:00 pm.”
Family relatives have told the media that the victim called her mother that night and told her to have dinner. “We were planning her wedding for next year,” a relative explained.
What postmortem report revealed?
The trainee doctor’s four-page postmortem report confirmed that she had been throttled to death. Her thyroid cartilage was shattered as a result of strangulation, and injuries were discovered on her stomach, lips, fingers, and left leg.
According to the complaint, the woman was bleeding from both her eyes, mouth, and private regions. According to the investigation, the scars in her private regions were caused by “perverted sexuality” and “genital torture”.
However, the cause of her eye wound has not yet been confirmed.
On Tuesday, the Calcutta High Court referred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
