K-pop artist Wheesung, aged 43, was discovered dead at his residence in Seoul on March 10. Officials acted on a report from a relative at 6:29 pm KST.
As reported by The Joongang, Wheesung was found in cardiac arrest, and although the police has not verified the specific reason for his death, they are considering a potential suicide or drug overdose. No indications of criminal activity were found at the location, and inquiries are continuing.
Wheesung’s agency verified the information, conveying profound grief: “We are deeply saddened to deliver such heartbreaking and tragic news. Our artist Wheesung passed away on March 10th. He was found in cardiac arrest at his home in Seoul and was later pronounced deceased.”

The agency sought privacy and consideration for the family, encouraging the public to avoid sharing unconfirmed rumors. “We are genuinely saddened to convey this tragic news to fans who have consistently demonstrated their steadfast love and support for Wheesung.”
Wheesung, whose real name is Choi, was a notable R&B and ballad artist, recognized for popular songs such as “Insomnia” (2009) and “Heartsore Story” (2011). He was getting ready for a collaborative concert with ballad artist KCM in Daegu on March 15. Only a few days prior to his passing, Wheesung shared a post on social media, “Diet over. See you on March 15.”
In 2021, Wheesung received a two-year suspended sentence for the unlawful use of propofol. He was convicted of acquiring 12 prescriptions for the medication in 2019. Moreover, he was found unresponsive in 2020 from excessive use of etomidate, a related medication.
Authorities are still looking into the circumstances surrounding his death, including whether he wrote a note. Supporters and the community are taken aback as they anticipate further information.
