Mumbai Indians (MI), the record five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), are facing a major setback in the ongoing season with the absence of their star batsman Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav, currently ranked number one in the world for T20 batters, is recovering from sports hernia surgery and will miss a few more matches, according to a BCCI source.
MI’s campaign has gotten off to a shaky start, losing their first two matches without the explosive batting of Yadav. While MI fans eagerly await Yadav’s return, the BCCI prioritizes his complete recovery ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup scheduled for June in the USA and the West Indies.

Suryakumar Yadav To Miss More Mumbai Indians Matches in IPL 2024
Mumbai Indians’ batting woes are set to continue as their star player, Suryakumar Yadav, is ruled out for a few more matches in IPL 2024. Ranked number one in the world for T20 batters, Yadav’s absence due to a sports hernia surgery is a significant blow to the five-time champions.

“Surya is making very good progress and very soon he will be back playing for MI. However, he might have to sit out for a few more games, having missed the first two,” a BCCI source informed.
The source further emphasized the importance of not rushing Yadav back into action. “For BCCI, the main concern is if he is on course for World T20, which he is. He will play for MI, but after a sports hernia surgery, he can’t be rushed,” the source said.

Mumbai Indians Fans Want Suryakumar Yadav to Return Quick
Yadav’s absence creates a significant void in the MI batting line-up. The 33-year-old batsman, known for his vast array of shots and an impressive strike rate of 171.55 in T20s, is often compared to the legendary South African batsman AB de Villiers. With 2141 runs in just 60 T20 Internationals for India, including four centuries, Yadav is a vital cog in the Indian batting order, and his presence in the upcoming World Cup is paramount.
I wish @surya_14kumar was playing this game today. Perfect stage for him. 👌#SRHvsMI#IPL2024

The Mumbai Indians’ fans missed Suryakumar Yadav in the match against SRH on Wednesday. SRH scored 277 runs in 20 overs, giving MI a monumental task during the chase. The five-time champions got off to a great start but missed the aggression at the end. Fans took to Twitter demanding that SKY return quickly and take over the finishing job for the team. However, with the latest medical reports suggesting more time for his MI return, the fans would have to wait a little longer to watch their favorite player play for MI soon.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will now look to bounce back from their early losses as they prepare to face Rajasthan Royals in their third match, their first home game in Mumbai, on Monday. However, the team’s fortunes in the IPL will undoubtedly depend on the recovery timeline of their star batsman, Suryakumar Yadav.
