Sources have informed India Today that Star India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah‘s involvement in the Champions Trophy is uncertain. Bumrah, regarded as one of India’s best fast bowlers, is currently sidelined due to injury and has been instructed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to go to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Insiders have indicated that Bumrah could be included in the Champions Trophy team, but his participation will depend on his rehabilitation. Bumrah sustained an injury on the second day of the final Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The pacer withdrew from the game after delivering only one over following the Lunch break. Bumrah underwent scans and did not return to bowl in the last innings of the match on Day 3.
“Since he is injured and will report to NCA for his rehab. As of now, we are hoping that he will be fine soon but not very sure about it as far as his selection is concerned,” sources privy to the matter told India Today.
“Selectors will take call but sources indicated that he will be in the provisional squad as subject to fitness addition. A final call will be taken soon,” the sources added.
BUMRAH’S HEAVY WORKLOAD
The 30-year-old Bumrah delivered over 150 overs during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Previously, sources informed PTI that Bumrah’s back spasm and the following injury were directly connected to his heavy workload during the series.
The BCCI has not released any official statement regarding Bumrah’s injury. In reality, the precise nature of the injury is still not fully understood.
If Bumrah’s injury falls under grade 1, it will require at least two to three weeks of rehabilitation before he can Return to Play (RTP). For a Grade 2 injury, healing may take as long as six weeks, whereas a Grade 3 injury, which is the most severe, necessitates at least three months of rest and rehabilitation.
It was anticipated that Bumrah would skip the T20I bilateral series since it isn’t a World Cup year, but with the Champions Trophy approaching, he would have certainly participated in two or possibly three ODIs against England.
