Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah urges PM Modi to cancel Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi again on Wednesday, demanding him to cancel JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport in connection with the ‘obscene videos’ case. He also urged PM Modi to take “quick and concerted actions to secure his repatriation to India.”

In his letter dated May 22, the Chief Minister stated that “it is shameful” that Prajwal Revanna “fled the country on April 27 using his diplomatic passport shortly after news of his heinous actions emerged and just a few hours before the first FIR was filed against him”.

The letter further read, “Karnataka’s government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to ensure justice is served… is investigating Prajwal Revanna’s alleged crimes against women and working to ensure the accused’s presence in court to face criminal charges.”

In the letter, CM Siddaramaiah urged that PM Modi bring Prajwal Revanna back from Germany. Revanna fled the nation after the ‘obscene videos’ incident, hours before the first FIR was filed against him. According to PTI, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) got the letter from the Karnataka Government today.

Earlier, on May 1, Siddaramaiah wrote to Modi, urging him to urge the home and foreign affairs ministries to cancel Prajwal’s diplomatic passport, according to The Indian Express.

No response from the Centre: G Parameshwara

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Wednesday that the state government appealed to the Centre urging it to cancel Prajwal’s diplomatic passport after the court issued the warrant, but has yet to receive a response, according to PTI.

He said, “Nothing has arrived yet (from the Center). The Centre should also assist us, as we request. There is no point in merely criticising. The Centre should assist us within the scope of the law.”

Prajwal Revanna, the alleged sexual offender, is running for re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He is the NDA’s contender for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency and the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda.

On April 27, the accused Prajwal reportedly fled to Germany a day after Hassan went to vote and is still at large. He faces sexual abuse accusations stemming from repeated assaults on women. The SIT is investigating the MP’s alleged repeated sex assault. Interpol has also issued a Blue Corner Notice, requesting information on Prajwal Revanna’s location.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
