Tom Hartley scalped seven wickets as England defeated India by 28 runs in the first Test on Sunday in Hyderabad.
Chasing 231 on Day 4, India started off well but suddenly lost many wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin and KS Bharat tried to anchor the innings but could not hold the fort. Hartley scalped seven while Joe Root and Jack Leach took one wicket each.
Earlier, Ollie Pope’s 196 took England to 420. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India with four wickets.
England came back into the game after two days of Indian dominance. Ollie Pope with the bat paved the way with an incredible 196. And then Hartley with a debut to remember.
India have a lot of questions to ask of their batting department. This is the first time India have lost a Test after gaining a 100-run lead in the first innings. England take 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
