Formerly known as “Amausi Airport,” Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport serves Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and is situated in Amausi, 14 kilometers from the city center. It was renamed in 2008 to honor India’s fifth prime minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh. The Lucknow International Airport Limited (LIAL), a public-private consortium headed by the Adani Group, is the entity that owns and runs it.
In terms of passenger traffic, the airport ranks eleventh in India. In the fiscal year 2022–2023, it handled over 5 million passengers with over 42,000 aircraft movements; in the fiscal year 2019–2020, it handled around 5.5 million passengers with 38,494 aircraft movements.
An exciting announcement has been made by MyGov India, inviting everyone to visit the stunning T3 terminal at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow.
The airport already has two functional terminals. The terminal 1, built to complement Charbagh Railway Station’s architecture has two arrival and three departing gates as well as two immigration counters. It was expanded in 1996.
The Terminal 2 which was initially built to serve as the international terminal was designated as the domestic terminal while Terminal 1 was designated as the international terminal due to the increase in domestic traffic. The elevation of the Terminal 2 structure to the sky is reminiscent of a paper airplane’s folded wings. The 200 m long terminal building has large cantilevers that resemble wings on either side, suggesting lightness and speed.
