Latest Updates from Farmers March
Barricades were cleared and vehicle movement recommenced on the Yamuna Expressway and Noida-Delhi border hours after farmers conducted a protest march toward Delhi from Noida.
The progress occurred following discussions between farmers and officials in Greater Noida, who have requested a week’s time to address the farmers’ concerns.
Farmers are requesting a distribution of 10 percent of plots and a 64.7 percent hike in compensation according to the previous acquisition law, set at four times the compensation market rate, along with 20 percent of plots for land acquired post-January 1, 2014. The requests also stipulate that children of landless farmers receive job opportunities and rehabilitation, government directives on the matters issued by the High Power Committee, and adequate resolution of populated regions.
The farmers’ organisations have said that they would resume their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march again if their issues are not resolved in a week.
On Monday, the demonstration started close to the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida as farmers advanced on foot and in tractors towards Delhi. They were, nevertheless, halted by the police, who were already there in expectation of the demonstration. The farmers who are protesting are part of the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and various associated organizations, such as the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).

Farmers were observed dismantling barricades and occupying them in spite of strong security presence. They also sat on the road while traffic flow on one side of the highways linking Noida and Delhi was obstructed. Authorities also shut down the route from Greater Noida to Delhi through Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida.
Due to the protest march, the Delhi Police and Gautam Buddh Nagar Police erected barriers at the Noida-Delhi border points to stop the farmers from entering the national capital.
