Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists trapped in hideout during gunfight with forces in J&K
On Monday, two key commanders from The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba, were trapped in a residence they were using as a hideout during a gunbattle with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama area.
The gunfight began after security personnel received information about a terrorist hiding in Pulwama’s Nehama neighborhood. When security personnel and police established a cordon and search operation, the terrorists opened fire on them, resulting in the shootout.

After obtaining clear evidence regarding the presence of terrorists in south Kashmir’s Nihama region, the army and police launched a joint search. “An encounter has begun in the Nihama region of Pulwama. Army and security forces have begun their work. More information will be provided later,” the Kashmir Zone Police Department stated on X.
The terrorists, Rayees Ahmad and Reyaz Ahmad Dar, are both residents of the Pulwama district in south Kashmir.
Previous encounters between security forces and terrorists
A terrorist was killed during an encounter between security personnel and terrorists in the Pulwama area. Aijaz Sheikh (34), a Danish citizen, died. He lived at Srinagar’s Alnoor Colony, which is within the jurisdiction of the Ahmed Nagar Police Station.

In a previous encounter in the Kulgam district of Jammu & Kashmir, security forces killed three terrorists. The encounter took place in the Redwani Payen area that day.
Basit Ahmed Dar, the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, was among those killed. According to the army, an arrest warrant for this guy, who was engaged in the killings of local citizens and security officers, has been issued for Rs 10 lakh. Momin Gulzar and Fahim Ahmed Baba are two other terrorists who were slain.
Kashmir Inspector General of Police V K Birdi told the media that Dar’s killing is a significant success for the army, as he is a terrorist who has been involved in around 18 murders.
They were slain after a nearly 40-hour encounter following the beginning of a security operation in the area in response to intelligence of terrorist activity. Many weapons were also retrieved from there.
On May 4, an incident occurred at Poonch in which an Air Force officer was killed and four others injured. A massive operation was then carried out in the area. Heavy security has been erected in the region as the elections approach. Meanwhile, the encounter occurred.
